The Little Details in Life

“You’re special in your own little way”

“One in a million, that’s what you are”

“You’re different from everybody else”

Everyone has heard these keepsake phrases from a lover, mother, friend, or even a therapist, but what exactly does it mean?

Are you inherently special because no one else is like you? Do you crap gold nuggets and sing in such a way that angels cry?

Probably not

People are unique, special, and different, however you want to paraphrase it, because they have certain details that set them apart from others.

These details range from the obvious gregarious attitude you might hold towards any situation or might be as subtle as how you love to swish pop in your mouth before you swallow it.

These finite details are the things that not only separate us from our nearly genetically identical poop throwing comrades, the monkeys, they also serve as a foundation for the next feel good marketing campaign by proving that everyone is unique and special enough to let out a worldwide moan that would make Walt Disney green with envy.

The key to embracing these details is to not only understand them, but to love them for what they are.

Do you love to separate your food in a succinct way, such that nothing touches each other during consumption?

Is it absolutely imperative that you open all public restroom doors with a hand towel?

Are sneezing and laughing synonymous in your lifestyle?

You say OCD, I say awesome.

These are the things that are amazing, the things that make each person not only interesting to talk to and observe, but more importantly help to define them as individuals in the sea of people that exist in the world today.

I say you make sweet love to all the details you see in a daily basis, use them to amplify your personality, to seek out diamonds in the rough, to learn new things, to go where no man has gone before.

Whatever floats your boat, go for it, and just understand that it’s the small details that define us, not the larger and more apparent sensory aids that are in our face.
