Check Yo Self Before You Wreck Yo Self

goal

Ever had a goal that you were literally obsessing over? Like to the point where is someone were to come p to you and say you were wrong you wouldn’t just tune them out, you would likely attack them like a piece of cake at a fat camp? I know I have. There have literally been moments in my life where I would totally zone everything else in my life out in order to focus specifically on achieving a goal. I literally would have girlfriends, family members, and my cat wondering, “What the hell is going on?” Unhealthy? Maybe. Effective? Hell yes. Now the funny thing is that many of these goals that we create end up being short-lived, but not for the reasons that you are likely contemplating.

I am not talking about getting some great goal and then quitting because you can’t make the cut, I’m talking about when you create a goal and look back at it a week later, a month, or ever a year and say to yourself, “Wtf was I thinking?” Fear not, you are not some underachieving dweeb you cant get enough mental leverage in their life to lift a paper clip, you just found yourself looking at a goal that has lost its luster and needs some serious retuning.

This whole idea started today actually, when I was looking at my giant white board that houses many of the goals and dreams I have in my life. As I was copying it down to a word document I quickly realized that a lot of these goals were not at all in alignment with what I was trying to get out of life. Then I was hit with a “could have had a v8” moment and forgot that Most of my goals had made the timely transition to my cell phone, and my white board had not been getting much love in this two way relationship. Here is a copy of this list for all your viewing pleasure

QUOTES

Woo + intent

Know your value

In the way you do anything, you do everything

A man on his path

Whatever you are feeling, they will feel

To seek to become a natural is to deny that oneself is already a natural

All that matters is the present moment

The self is always coming through

Offer value, entertain yourself

Be authentic

Actions define you, not outcome

The glory treasure is you

Trust in yourself

You are enough

Be whom your meant to be

Make your life like an adventure

Game is a celebration of you

Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around

Feel it, express it

I bring the truth

Now not everything on that list needs stripped off, a lot of it is actually quite good and still very much exactly what I am trying to do with my life (even after a few years). While I no longer aspire t own property all over the world (there is no way I can sit still long enough to constitute such purchases) I can damn well assure you that I am still adding more muscle to my lean body frame and still want to traverse the world. Now I would hope that most people would have lists like this, as they pretty much are required for anyone who has ever tried to make a positive change in their life. If you are looking at my list and realizing that you have never made such a list tin your life, I recommend you stop reading this article, turn off the FX movie on the television, and start writing now. For the rest of you, all that needs to happen with a list like this is a simple reassessment.

There is no magical method to this, and you don’t need to buy a book and circle a whole bunch of shit on a piece of paper in some attempt to make your goals reminiscent of a NASA space engineer. Abll you have to do is look over all your goals and determine what stuff is gold, and what stuff is crap. All of your stuff that is still something you are working on obviously needs to remain on the list. Anything that you have accomplished can be removed and potentially have something new added in its place (related or not, it doesn’t matter). And all of the goals that you no longer have any aspirations to accomplish simply need to make their way to the recycle bin. Be honest and give them a good look over, and after you have made all your changes be sure to post them up in a public place in your home where you are sure to see them many times on a daily basis.

That’s it; nothing crazy complicated, just a simple task that often times gets overlooked. Its way to easy to get caught up in a plethora of goals and not realize that some goals simply aren’t worth your time anymore. As long as you made some adjustments form time to time, you are sure to see more noticeable improvements in your life.

Happy goal dusting

Gabriel
