One of the biggest things a person can struggle with is the notion of behaving in an ethical fashion. From an early age one is told to, “do the right thing” and “play by the rules” but what happens when a person is exposed to the underbelly of a situation?

I remember reading about a study that stated that nearly any employee of a company would be willing to steal from their perspective companies in certain situations. Similarly I have read reports about people who took place in a study where they were placed in a room with a hundred dollar bill and no supervisor; they would consequently take the money over 80% of the time.

Does this mean that all people are inherently bad? Does a McDonald’s employee taking money from the cash register as a felon to you? What if that same employee was working overtime for their supervisor and never receiving proper compensation week in and week out? Are they still in the wrong?

On the same accord, there are people whom absolutely refuse to do anything that is even remotely considered immoral or unethical. These saint-like people take pride in the notion that they do no wrong towards anyone ever. Are these people better than the rest of us? Most would agree that even the most morally sound and ethical human being has done things that they regret, or taking bad action towards another. Would this same person refuse to steal a vaccine from a hospital if it meant saving their loved one’s life?

The idea of ethics is a flexible concept at best, as it is human nature to seek to benefit oneself, especially when placed in a compromising situation with no potential for recourse, so why try to fight it? This is a question that has plagued minds since the dawn of civilization and has no precise answer. The bottom line is that every person is going to treat every situation that they deal with in a different way, some situations will result in certain people acting unethically while others play things by the book, so to speak.

I have come to determine that no fault should be placed on anyone, for any particular situation. You should always try to do the right thing in your mind, and never go against the grain of what you believe in, and while every action you take may or may not be met with praise or discourse, you will feel sound in knowing that you have done the right thing for you.

Morally sound

Gabriel

There comes a time in every man’s life when he has to suck it up and fall down the rabbit hole

This can meaning anything from embarking on an unsettling adventure to pulling the trigger on your comfortable job for something completely outside your comfort zone.<

Since today we are nearly all blessed with out the constant threat of an animal ready to rip out our jugular or at risk from being killed by the tribe leader for giving the slip to the most attractive woman in the tribe, you can pretty much bet that you can do whatever the hell you want with little fear of consequences.

This isn’t a pledge to commit mass homicide against Justin Bieber’s, but rather an understanding that your new passage for becoming a true man might involve something as simple as telling your boss to, “fuck off”

Its like embarking on a gold digging crusade, except you might very well walk out without your whip and fedora with a beautiful blond under your arms.

It has to be done though, you have to grow the hell up and do things that no one else agrees with, that your parents hate, your girlfriend fumes about, and any other social pressure to prevent you from doing something you know you were born to do.

Being a man means doing the things that are important, and if you don’t you might as well stay home and read about playboy bunnies instead of being wit you.

Come of age, and grow the fuck up.

Gabriel

Lately I have felt like my life is trying to box me into a figment of my aspirations for the epic tale that I am trying to weave. It’s almost as if my dream lifestyle is getting a strong case of claustrophobia and the only antidote is a needle worth of adrenaline.

I live for this adrenaline; it’s the juice of my life. New experiences, meeting new people, going on fantastic spontaneous adventures, I need all of it like a slop dripping IV or I feel as if my life is falling apart around me.

That being said, the world around me is constantly trying to box me in, offering simple labels for who I am and what I can be. Whether it’s a job title, a friendship, relationship, or even family, everyone around me seems content in the notion of mediocrity. Unfortunately for all of us, mediocrity is worse than death for yours truly.

Don’t get me wrong, if you want to work a 9-5 job, have a white picket fence, kids, go out to dinner on Friday nights, and curse the day you were a child, then by all means sign up for that lifestyle. Its easy, and nearly everyone can get something out of such a decision. To me, I would rather live by the fly of my seat, not knowing where my next paycheck is coming from, how I am going to get food, or where I am going to stay before I have to get on a plane to head to the next location.

Could this lifestyle backfire? Possibly, I could end up dead in a ditch somewhere, but that notion doesn’t really bother me much.

Simply living life, “just because” sounds like the single worst concept I have ever heard of. Sure, there is something to be said for enjoying the moment for what it is, and staying positive, both of which are concepts that I hold true to my heart. Though, at some point, you have to take a step back, look at your life, and say, “What the fuck man?”

I say screw the box, do exactly what you want to do because you never know when you will die or how long it will take for your master plan to actually come into fruition.

Life is too short to not have a good time.

Listening to my own advice

Gabriel
